Mobile number portability- 32.79 mn subscribers opt for MNP

Mobile Number Portability has emerged as a new era in the Indian Telecom industry. According to the latest reports, the number of subscribers has increased to 32.79 mn in January and this figure could increase in the coming few months. The gross MNP research revealed that during last 13 months complete portability requests improved from 3.83 million subscribers to 37.11 million until Feb 2012.

A number of people in the country are opting for number portability process and many of them are from professional and business sectors. This shows that most of the people are not happy with their current network providers and therefore switching their connection to other operators. In this process of mobile number portability , Reliance is leading other operators followed by Tata Docomo and Idea number portability.

It has become really difficult for the network providers to retain their customers after the release of MNP process. But Reliance is gaining more customers as compared to others. Some special offers and tariffs have also been brought by the operators to retain their existing users as well as to attract new users.

As a result, on one hand the leading Indian operators are gaining new customers but on the other hand they are also losing a huge customer base. And in this race, Airtel seems to be biggest looser as 35% of its users have already subscribed for a change.
