Vodafone Top Official Manu Kapoor Quits

The leading mobile network provider, Vodafone India has recently lost one of its top executives, Manu Kapoor. Kapoor was working with the brand as director for the external affairs since March 2012. The company has decided to replace him with Rohit Adya, presently heading operations. As per the information available, Kapoor has given a prior notice though he will serve the company till the end of June 2013.

According to an official Vodafone statement, “Manu joined Vodafone India in March 2012 to set up the External Affairs portfolio and has played an important role in helping the business connect better with the external environment and to smoothen out the communications agenda for the organization”.

The biggest surprise was that his resignation has come at a crucial time, when the company is in a legal battle with the Indian Government on charges of tax evasion; the amount being around $2 billion.

Kapoor has also worked, with another telecom giant, Reliance Industries in the past and joined Vodafone while the Indian government was planning to change the tax laws.

Vodafone has performed really well in the past one year, especially its Vodafone 3G data card that has become very popular. The brand has emerged as one of the toughest competitor in the Indian mobile and data cards market, as Vodafone has worked towards improving its services and network coverage. Furthermore, Vodafone’s popularity can also be attributed to its unique and interesting advertising and marketing campaigns and the use of ZooZoo characters.

While Vodafone’s closest competitor is Airtel in the mobile market, it has several other competitors like MTS, Airtel, Tata, and many others in the data cards space. Now with Vodafone having found a new Operations Head in Rohit Adya, the company seems to be poised to scale new heights.

Know Your Data Card Tariff Rates

After an extreme competition over voice plans and tariffs, the leading India telecommunications companies seem to have now moved their interest towards data cards tariffs. Here is an evaluation of various data packs offered by prominent operators.

Pay as you go plans: Reliance is providing best tariff plans for unbundled or pay as you go packs. Currently, it charges just 20 paisa per MB, while Airtel is charging Rs 2 per MB under its pay-as-you-go plan. However, Idea Cellular is charging for an extreme Rs 3 per MB under it’s unbundle plan where you need not to register to any plan.

Standard Data Pack: All the three providers are providing 1 GB of 3G data for Rs 250 and 2 GB for Rs 450. However, Reliance has not declared any other data pack under its new plans, while Airtel data cards and Idea data cards are providing different credibility periods and data packages with greater data capacity. Airtel is providing 4 GB for Rs 750 valid for 1 month and 10 GB for Rs 1500, while Idea is providing 4 GB for Rs 1250 for 90 days (3 months).

Unlimited packs: Idea has now got just one endless package costing Rs 950 which provides 6 GB of information at 3G rate. However, post usage it is providing highest possible speed up to 128 Kbps which is two times quicker than Reliance’s 64 Kbps and way better than Airtel’s 20 Kbps.

Reliance has more attractive packs and broader choice in this section with three different packs costing Rs 750, Rs 900 and Rs 1,200 with 3G like speed available up to 5 GB, 10 GB and 15 GB respectively. Apart from this, MTS data cards are other better choice for unlimited plans. It is offering the cheapest plan yet starting at Rs. 650 for 5 GB data usage.

Airtel on the other side has no truly unlimited package but it has one plan which provides a bill shield at Rs 2,000. Whereas, Vodafone data cards are not coming with unlimited 3G data packs, but are coming with some usage based plans and advance rental plans.

3G War Among All Leading Operators

When some countries have launched 4G technology, in India, there is a war like scenario among the telecom leaders for 3G data cards. All the leading operators including Bharti Airtel, Reliance, Vodafone, etc. have brought their 3G services late in India and the price sensitive Indian markets are still in its early stages when we discuss ‘3G technology’.

Currently, most of the operators are using new marketing techniques to expand their market. Bharti Airtel has released an offer wherein it has several red colored vehicles or the popularly known “3G buses” on the shift in some of the significant places. Users can catch these vehicles to get an encounter of the 3G solutions like Mobile TV, online gaming and video calling. 3G campaigns for Reliance data cards are quite ordinary. Though the ads go on describing about the new solutions that are being provided, it does not create any excitement about the product.

The Vodafone’s 3G ad campaign is just amazing. Its success from the Zoo Zoo campaign can be accessed from the point that it has been the biggest gainer with regards to variety of users who have made the decision to switching service providers while maintaining the same number. Zoo 3G, the new super hero of the Zoo Zoo group is everywhere be it off-line or online.

Tata Docomo has converted a large number of its suppliers in encounter shops where one can come and experience the advanced attributes of 3G. The operator also performed a lot of outside campaigning work for Docomo data card, some of it being very impressive in characteristics. Aircel has shifted up the rankings fairly easily and I experience this is due to its connection with the Indian Cricket captain, MS Dhoni. These add campaigns have been quite impressive in its promotions.

3G services for Idea data cards are again, I experience not a very excellent campaign. After a very effective ‘What an Idea sirji’ campaign presenting Abhishek Bachchan, the existing ads have not done a bit to woo its viewers. Further, there are some other operators which are bringing new 3G campaigns to strengthen their markets.
